Credit Unions
Credit Unions have become a
significant presence in many British communities over the past decades, though
their actual development goes back 150 years. They offer a serious alternative
to loan sharks and others offering exorbitant rates of interest.
A Credit Union is owned
and controlled by the members for the benefit of all. It is a form of community
banking which offers low interest loans to members as well as a members'
dividend.
There are no fees or charges
and repayments are organised to suit an individual's circumstances. Local
money remains in the community and encourages a sense of financial security
and community strength.
