Community economic development

The entire eligible area in Shipley is served by a partnership known as the Shipley East Regeneration Board, a multi-agency grouping, sponsored by the Council which provides the co-ordinating function for the regeneration of the Shipley area. Regeneration is developed through a process which involves working with a variety of the public, local groups and organisations and looks to organisations who have the will and capacity to bring forward appropriate responses.

Community planning in the Constituency is well advanced and involves a wide variety of groups and organisations. Community dialogue is facilitated by Neighbourhood Forums providing direct access for the public to service agencies and vice versa - part of Bradford Council’s "listening infrastructure".

Other bodies include the Shipley Constituency Community Education Consortium, the Shipley Constituency Community Development Team and the Shipley Federation of Tenants and Residents.

The Shipley Constituency Area Panel is a Council Sub-Committee charged with taking an overview of issues across the Constituency and is the parent body for the Shipley East Regeneration Board.

There are a number of Council grant-supported, although independently staffed Community Centres in the Shipley area, which have participated in a range of regeneration activities. Two of these - Bolton Woods Community Centre and Windhill Community Centre are partners in Shipley Communities Online and took part in the Policy Action Team 15 research.

(This section would be well served by some pictures which sum up the geography of the area, an area map and probably some additional text about Shipley’s existence as a town with surrounding client communities.)
