OnLine Learning

Rónán O'Beirne
| Online Learning has been a central pillar of the project giving the ability to offer beneficiaries something concrete in the form of an educational qualification or a vocational accreditation. This has been done through the provision of a turnkey online learning system developed by IMS Publishing called Link2 Learning. The system allows access to learning programmes and also to communicate with tutors and other learners by e-mail and computer sharing. Tutors, from Shipley College, and students can talk over the phone and discuss course progress while viewing the learning materials online. |
| Many of the traditional barriers to learning such as difficult location, classroom fear, timetabling and childcare arrangements can be overcome through online learning. This feature coupled with other factors available on the SCOL website for example; transport information, a comprehensive database of training opportunities, and the local authority's childcare database provide much opportunity to widen and deepen participation in lifelong learning. |

There is a range of courses that have been developed and are used by project beneficiaries.
Courses can be accessed any time via the project's community venues. This gives a high level of flexibility. The Online Learning aspect of this project has proved to be popular and so far over 150 learners have enrolled. |
